Handball history in India

First of all congratulations to Indians for wining Cricket World Cup-2011, it was fantastic teamwork...!
In the history of Handball it is presumed that Game Handball was brought to India arguably  by Shri JS Chauhan of Haryana. He conducted two all India seminar on Handball at Rohtak in Haryana before the formation of Fedration in year 1971-72. Amateur Handball Federation of India (AFHI) was formed in 1972 and got provisional affliation with International Handball Federation. The Asian Handball Federation granted it Affliation in 1976. AHFI is affiliated in our country with Govt. of India, the all India council of sports and Indian Olympic Association. The present form of HFI is known to all  and organisation information is available on this site. The little knowledge of history of  HFI could be disputed but any one is aware of further knowledge may share with us.

Things are improving since last year but at a slow pace. India had won Inter-continental Championship at chennai and now our U-20 team will play World Cup qualifying round, India is again chosen to conduct this championship, some where in May-June this year. Handball in South Asia

Handball although not very popular in South Asian countries but young generation in rural area has great potential, not only far handball but other games which requires only basic facilities. Urban Areas are under great influence of Cricket, and this cannot be ruled out that no other game perform at international level like Cricket. About 80 to 90 % of  South Asian follow this game, efforts are wide spread for other games but results are far. Hockey had enjoyed second place but Wrestling and Boxing seems taking lead, this is mainly due to efforts in rural areas. Handball has lot of scope in rural areas firstly it requires only a ball and pair of goal posts.Secondly other games are costly affair, thirdly it requires less space. We must thrive to capture the potential in India as well in other SA Nations like Srilanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Maldives, Afghanistan etc

Law and Sports in India

It gave me immense pleasure on looking at book "Law and Sports in India" while at legal books shop. This was a perfect combination,  I was thinking on such lines for quite sometimes. I was also amazed due to my acquitance with author when he was heading division bench at Delhi High Court, where I represented few cases. Justice Mukul Mudgal has rightly and successfully highlighted issues like role of state and sports law, gender discrimination, voilence and betting in sports etc. This book will work as guiding feature for sportsperson, Fedrations, and other sports related professionals and businessmen in the field of broadcasting, labour and contractual issues. This will also be useful guiding factor in sports dispute resolution. The efforts made in the field of sports law will enhance the professionalism for sportspersons as well as sports administrators.

Handball India in Golden days.....will it sustain...!!!

Handball is highly spirited, most interesting and high speed game. Its worth watching sport of short duration. But this is not so popular in India, but  europe and some other Asian countries enjoy wide popularty. In past 11 months India have scaled new highs in terms of achievments. The  efforts of players, coaches and administrators are appreciable.

But the platform of recognition is yet too far to be accepted Handball as main line sport. No doubts cricket takes the king's place but Hockey, football, Basketball, Volleyball are still better popular sport as far as India is concern. Other games i.e. Tennis, Squash, Golf, Billiards and TT etc are played by less than half a percent people in India. Badminton is on the card far quite sometimes.

Handball has complete potential to win hearts of Indian, all we need is to make efforts to bring this game at par with others. My request to all readers is to unite for Handball and suggest your ideas to Improve the standard of the game and increas popularty.  Lets rise and shine to contribute our bit for Handball India.
